The brightly coloured blue jay always makes an impression on those who see its vibrant blue hued plumage, and the sight is even more appealing when seen against the backdrop of autumn-coloured maple leaves. This 2021 one-ounce fine-silver blue jay coin features an elevated view of an engraved park setting, where a stone path leads to a footbridge. In the foreground, the blue, black and white feathers of the blue jay make it easy to spy the colourful songbird perched among the red and gold sugar maple leaves. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The blue jay measures 22 to 30 centimeters from bill to tail and weighs 70 to 100 grams, with a wingspan of 34 to 43 centimeters. This songbird has a pronounced crest on its head, which may be raised or lowered according to the bird's mood. When excited or aggressive, the crest will be fully raised. When frightened, the crest bristles outwards. When the bird is feeding among other jays or resting, the crest is flattened on the head. The blue jay is easily recognized with its blue-hued plumage. The underside is off-white and the neck is collared with black which extends to the sides of the head. Its bill, legs and eyes are all black. Bird lovers get in quick, only one in stock!
