Founded in 1896 as a branch to the British Royal Mint, Perth Mint today is one of the largest minting plants globally, owned by the Western Australian government. Manufacturer of the iconic ‘Kangaroo’ gold and silver investment coins, Perth Mint also produce a popular lunar series and a range of sought-after collector coins.
Initially launched as the “Golden nugget” gold coin in 1986, and re-imagined featuring a Red Kangaroo by 1989. The Platinum version was introduced to investors in 2018 and has been received to much acclaim.
The reverse side depicts a Red Kangaroo which has adorned the reverse of silver Kangaroo bullion coins since 2016. The marsupial is seen hopping through a blank horizon, as it is encapsulated by shapes which signify sun-rays. The encapsulation in the coin's rim displays the coin's title, the Perth Mint “P” mark as an added security feature, the year of issue, and the denomination, purity, and metal type. As a testament to the Australian Mint’s innovation, an enhanced security feature has been included. A micro-engraved phrase that is only visible under magnification.
The obverse depicts Jody Clark’s modern rendition of Queen Elizabeth II, over a blank, matte, coin field. The effigy is encapsulated by the Queen’s title, the nation of issue, and the 100 Australian dollar denominational value.
