The ‘Original Maker’, striking coins since 886, The Royal Mint are the world’s leading export mint for both currency and bullion. The Britannia coin, in both gold and silver, has become a much loved investment coin globally. Additionally, collector coins from the Royal Mint have sometimes increased in value by many times, and are seen as a solid investment choice.
On December 7 1941, Japanese carrier-based aircraft launched a surprise attack on an important US military base at Pearl Harbour, Hawaii, thereby precipitating American Involvement in World War II. The attack on Pearl Harbour signalled the extension of the war into the Pacific Islands. To mark the 50th anniversary of this event, the Central Bank of the Solomon Islands has authorised the Royal Mint to strike a limited number of gold proof $25 coins. Forming a 900 mile chain across the south-west Pacific Ocean, the Solomon Islands were strategically important to the Japanese in their attempt to conquer the South Pacific. On January 23rd 1942 Japanese troops arrived, occupying the western and central islands until August that same year when American Forces landed on Florida and Guadal Canal Islands and began a 6 month campaign ending in the expulsion of the Japanese forces. These coins are in perfect, pristine condition- just as they were 30 years ago on the day they were minted. It's very rare to come across a coin from 1991 in this condition, and we've got 4 available here in the office. Get in touch if you'd love to add one to your collection!
