Canada Post 1976 Olympics .999 Gold Stamp Sculpture Set Minted by Johnson Matthey & Mallory. While the United States was celebrating their 200th birthday of independence Canada was preparing to host the Olympics in Montreal. To commemorate the event the Canada Post issued a collection of stamps in gold, silver, and bronze (and of course, paper). They released several sets, each containing three stamps portraying various Olympic events. Johnson Matthey & Mallory were contracted to mint the stamps. Each stamp weighs 23.33 grams, is minted on .999 gold and indicates the weight, and purity along with the mint (JMM) on the back. The serial number is also on the back. This Limited Edition 1976 Canadian Post Stamp set commemorates the 1976 Olympic Summer Games held in Montreal.
